Hello all,
Reminder- *November 1- Professional Development Day for Teachers- No School

*Trick or Treating 2023
We will have a quick costume parade before we start Trick or Treating. Please arrive at 11:20.
*Tk/Kinder kiddos should line up outside room 4 with Ms. T.
*1st grade kiddos should line up outside room 3 with Mrs. Baker.
*2/3rd grade kids should line up outside room 7 with Mrs. Codiga,
*6th grade kids should line up outside room 8 with Mr. Codiga.
*7th grade kids should line up outside room 9 with Mrs. McGough.

After the costume parade, students will walk with their classes to 20 stations to Trick-or-Treat. Parents handing out treats will spread out all around the field and playground and will mark the student's cards limiting them to 20 items.
PLEASE bring your own reusable bag to collect treats. We will not be providing disposable bags. Kids who forget can use their backpacks. This is such a fun day. Thanks for participating!
California Healthy Kids Survey- It is that time of year again!
The survey is administered to all parents and staff and students at grades five-eight. It enables schools and communities to collect and analyze data regarding local youth health risks and behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, and school violence. The anonymous survey helps us make decisions for our school plan. Please complete by Friday, December 8th. We will be administering to student at school during the Blended Middle School program or when they are on campus for Winter Testing. We must have a permission form for 5th and 6th grades to complete. If parents of 7th and 8th graders do not want their student to participate, please email me at [email protected] to opt out.

2nd-8th Grade Winter NWEA Math and AR Reading Assessments 2023-24
Feel free to ignore this if you only have TK/K/1 or a Blended Middle School kiddo. Notice that we have the start time a few minutes later than the Resource Center so that the office and parking lot are not so busy at the same time!

*April 9 and 10 Arete Student Showcase- Similar to our STEAM Showcase last year- we are inviting ALL students to display projects they work on during the year. Please drop off projects on April 4, 5, or 7 for us to create the display. Then come back on April 9/10 at 9am to stand by your project. Classes and other interested adults are invited to view the displays starting at 9:15. We are telling you now so you can save projects you can complete during the year. Projects can be submitted by any Arete student!
*Chess Club is back at Arete! It runs every other week at 12pm in Room 1. Check arete.prsd.us for specific dates.
*PRSD is focusing on reducing Tech Addiction in Children and building pathways for Digital Health. Each week I will share a NEW tidbit about this or how to to reduce screen time for kids who struggle with this.
*2011 Indiana Univ. School of Medicine video game brain imaging study, Dr. Wang concluded, “…less activation in certain frontal brain regions following a week of playing violent video games at home. The affected brain regions are important for controlling emotion and aggressive
behavior.” The frontal brain regions are also the same brain regions that are affected by drug addiction; for the first time, researchers showed a DIRECT relationship between playing violent video games and a subsequent change in those brain regions associated with executive
functioning.

*Math Intervention Groups
Ms. McAlister and Mrs. Tamo are running 1 to 1 or small math groups this fall. To be considered to be at grade level, your child needs to score at or above the 50th percentile. If they are in the 30th percentile or lower, we will be reaching out to you now or in six weeks or so to invite them to free math intervention with a credentialed teacher. (We saw huge growth in our students who participated in reading/phonics intervention last year). This is an amazing opportunity to receive free intervention as part of our MTSS Grant. Please take us up on it!!!
