Book Fair is HERE

Hello Arete Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is here at our school!  Every purchase at the Fair benefits our school!

Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:

Dates: Wednesday, March 26th to Tuesday, April 1st

Location: The Library

Payments: Scholastic E-Wallet, Cash, Credit cards,  Student Funds,  and Checks (payable to Arete School),

  • Student Funds: If you would like to use student funds then parents must fill out a budget form to use the funds towards book only purchases at the book fair. Budgets must be turned in at least 1 day before to Mary in the front office. The amount can not exceed $100. The books purchased with the students funds will be tagged and checked out to your student as a library book until the end of the current school year.
  • E-Wallet: set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.

There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:

https://www.scholastic.com/bf/aretecharteracademy
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,

Kate Dabney

All Are Welcome

Arete staff is on a mission to bring families together. We have been granted some funds to invest in developing the social and emotional intelligence of our students, and we think the best way to do that is by providing them with an opportunity to experience the joy of the school community. The more we know each other, the more we care about each other. The more we care about each other, the more we are there for one another. Navigating the ebbs and flows of life effectively is the goal of SEL. And doing that with people who know you and care about you, makes the journey much brighter. Please join us on our mission to bring Arete families together!

Parent Survey

We have had 33% of Arete parents complete the parent survey. That's up from 11% earlier this week. Yay! We would LOVE to get closer to 50%. That means we need 25 more families to complete the survey by Monday. We can do it!

We will be meeting on March 31 with a team of teachers, staff, and parents to review the results and make decisions and goals for our school for the next school year. PLEASE take a few minutes to complete the survey so we have your valuable input.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your child's educational experience at Pleasant Ridge School District. Your input is invaluable in helping us understand and improve various aspects of our school environment. This survey aims to gather your perspectives on student engagement, social-emotional learning, and academic achievement. If you have children at multiple sites please submit a survey for each school site. This will help us plan for each individual site. It should only take about 2 minutes to fill out the survey.

Reminder to sign in (and out) every time you are on campus. This is a safety issue. We need to have an accurate accounting of who is on campus. When we do a drill (or if we have a real event), we have to find every person who sings in (but not out) and account for all of the parents who are on campus but did not sign in. Thanks!

COMING THIS WEEK!!!

Math Night at Arete: Where Math Meets Movement!

On March 13th,  from 5:30-6:30, Arete will host an exciting and interactive Math Night, where families can experience the magic of math in a whole new way—through PE-inspired games and activities! This fun-filled evening will combine physical activity with learning, showing students that math isn’t just about numbers and equations—it’s something that can be enjoyed through movement, teamwork, and play.

The night will consist of a series of stations, each designed to help students explore different math concepts while staying active. From obstacle courses to relay races, students  can join in a variety of games that incorporate math problems into the activities they are participating in. We would love to have you all join Mrs. Tamo for this fun and active night!

This is a free night and ALL are invited!

Math Night at Arete: Where Math Meets Movement!

Our THIRD Annual Arete Student Showcase will be May 6 and 7 this year from 9:15-9:45 in the MPR. This is an awesome event where students can bring in 2D or 3D projects that they have worked on this year and are proud of. Please start saving these projects. We will have a museum walk those two mornings and would love to have parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, neighbors, etc come view the awesome projects and ask the students about them.

Thank you so much for being part of our eighth year at Arete. This year has been an amazing journey and we are so glad your family has been on it with us. We also know that homeschool is not for everyone, and want parents to make the best decision for their families. We are excited to announce that we will be adding a high school next year for 9th-12th grades. We are making arrangements for next year for all classes and need to know what your plans are. Thank you for completing one form for each child who attends our school. Please complete for TK-8th grade. If your child is in 8th grade, please let us know what high school they will be attending if it will not be at Arete as we will need to transfer their permanent records to their new school. This form is due by March 13, 2025 and will guarantee your child's enrollment at Arete for the 2025-2026 school year. If you do not respond, we will follow up ONE time, and then will consider your answer to be that your child is NOT returning to Arete. If you decide to come back later, there may be openings and if not, you will get priority in the lottery. The lottery will be held by the end of the 2025 school year if needed.

Arete Charter Academy 2025-2026 School Year- Intent to Return

Tuesday, March 25 and Wednesday, March 26 students at the Arete Resource Center will be participating in a Guest Chef cooking experience. Families of students who do not attend that are invited for a cooking night on Tuesday, March 25 from 5:30-6:30 with Chef Susan. We will be working together to make Spring Tacos + Salsa Primavera.

Our Vision: An intro VIDEO from Ms. Tomasetti

Participation counts as social studies!!

Three Ways to Participate

Option #1: Do it ALL! (be a festival goer, set up a booth, and bring a potluck dish)

Option #2: Bring a Dish! (be a festival goer, and bring a potluck dish)

Option #3: Join in the Fun! (be a festival goer only)

Main points to know...

Family Posters: All participating families are encouraged to make a poster with pictures and artifacts representing their family, which will be displayed throughout the festival.

*poster board provided by Arete. Turn into school office between 3/24-3/27 to be set up prior to event

"Choose Your Outlet": After our opening gathering, festival-goers will visit family booths and teacher stations, where they will get to learn about the history of those around them, and the activities and traditions they value.

Pin trading and raffle prizes: Families will design their own pins which will be traded during "Choose Your Outlet." All festival-goers will be provided with a lanyard to attach their traded pins to. The more pins collected, the more raffle tickets earned for our prize drawing!

*blank pins provided by Arete, and prepared by families prior to event

Potluck Lunch: We will close the event by breaking bread together, where we can nurture new connections, spend time with good friends.

Family Booths: Families who choose to participate will set up a booth displaying an important aspect of their lives. This could be sharing possessions or traditions that have been passed down through the generations. It could also include honoring an important person, sharing something artistic, teaching about a favorite family activity, or presenting on something that contributes to the family's livelihood.

*We want everyone to be able to participate. If support is needed with paying for materials to put together a booth, please let us know! We can help.

This is Social Studies: Students' contribution to this event counts as social studies lessons. With full participation, you can make this a month-long unit!

Arete’s Amazing Yearbook will be back thanks to Ms. Tomasetti and our Blended Middle School Leadership Team! Go to www.treering.com/validate, enter school passcode 101636661669265, pay $20.34 and create your two custom pages by April 25. Yearbooks will be delivered for free to Arete before Fun Field Day at the end of May. We do not purchase extra ones, so make sure to plan ahead!

We are hoping that both off and on campus families will send in pictures of the awesome school activities they are doing, whether it is school or individual field trips or any other fun learning opportunities. Please email to [email protected] and put "Yearbook Pictures" in the subject heading. The sooner you can get these in, the better. Thanks!

We are a NUT FREE campus. Please save nut snacks for while at home. Also, we have some other class specific allergies, so please email Sarah and the classroom teacher BEFORE bringing in birthday treats.  We are also working towards a healthier campus and encourage snacks/treats that align with that. Low and zero waste items are preferred.
