Sunday, May 21 Update

Families,

Happy Sunday! We are rounding up to the end of the year and are preparing for next year. If you are a returning family for next year, please log in to your PowerSchool account here and complete or update enrollment forms A-L. (A few of you may have already completed these.) New families should have received an email from Power School with instructions for creating your accounts. You will then need to log back in and complete all enrollment forms. We need all families to complete forms by June 9 as we have a lottery scheduled for June 14 and need to know how many spots we have open. These forms are required in order for your child’ enrollment to be processed for next year. If you need PowerSchool assistance, please contact Andrea Magda at [email protected].

We are also excited to announce that this year you will be able to sign all contracts at your 20 day meeting in June and start putting your budget together for ordering in the beginning of August. We are hoping this will speed up curriculum ordering in the fall.

*Maidu Museum Comes to Arete- Wednesday, May 24th from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. Our last field trip of the year is onsite and is this week. All are invited to attend. We have openings. Click here to sign up. January Through May Field Trips 2023

*8th Grade Promotion- We are starting to plan our Arete 8th Grade Promotion for Wednesday, June 7 at 5:30pm. Nicole Tomasetti is planning this awesome event and will be holding a meeting, Wednesday, May 24 at 9am in room 4.

*Fun Field Days- Our last days of the hybrid Arete Resource Center with lessons will be Wednesday, May 24 and Thursday, May 25.  The last day of school for the Blended Middle School will be Thursday, June 1. (Students will work at home until June 12). On May 30 (TK-3) and May 31 (4-8th) we will be having Fun Field Days. ALL families are invited, BUT PLEASE SIGN UP IF YOU ARE ATTENDING SO WE CAN PLAN FOR NUMBERS. We will also be having a 5th grade picnic on May 31 from 12-12:45 (5th grade families are invited to bring their own picnic lunch and an ice cream topping to share then we will have an ice cream sundae bar). Students are invited to wear summer clothes and sandals and bring a towel. (There is water involved on this fun day)! This day only works if LOTS of families sign up to run stations. Please sign your kiddo up to attend and then sign yourself up to help out. Thanks! Fun Field Days

Remember to email Sarah at [email protected] a few days before a kiddos’ birthday if you want to send in treats so I can check for food allergies. Nuts are never allowed, but some individual classes have food allergies that I also monitor closely. Thanks for keeping our students safe. We also strongly encourage healthier treats if possible as some families closely monitor their kiddos’ sugar and food dye intake.

Please remember that we are a NUT FREE school as we have several students with severe nut allergies. Kiddos may enjoy nut free granola bars and spreads on their sandwiches and all the nut free favorites when away from Arete. Thanks!

Sheila
Arete's own gem, Sheila Voleck has voted and honored yesterday as PRSD's Classified Employee of the Year for the ENTIRE district. This is because she is so amazing and helpful to all of us. Here is why she was chosen.

Sheila has been a dedicated employee at two PRSD school sites for over 19 years. She is incredibly committed to her job and follows through on every duty until successful completion.   She is kind, humble and hard working in every avenue, no matter the task. Her willingness to jump right in and help is just a part of who she is as a person, but deeply appreciated and needed being on the front line (office).

Sheila anticipates what jobs require completion and reaches out to other staff to ensure that she finishes them. She looks at ways to make things more efficient and easier to understand by our community.

Sheila is an amazing coworker. She is always willing to lend a hand, support, comfort and provide laughter when most needed. She is adored by students, staff, and families.

Sheila brings a blend of compassion and calmness that is desperately needed at every school.  We love that she can laugh at herself and make others laugh, she lifts others up just by being her.

She is willing to take on the least desired jobs and does them with full commitment to do her very best, which is amazing. She has volunteered to provide lunch supervision for middle school students and does it with a smile on her face, every day, rain or shine!

Sheila serves breakfast and lunch to our students and she keeps track of which kiddo prefers each item and saves them to deliver them. For middle school students who do not always feel seen, this makes all of the difference that she is looking out for them in every way.

Fellow employees comment over and over that they can always go to Sheila for help or to have any question answered and she is kind and patient every time. She is very humble and honest and immediately owns up to any mistakes.  When she was called into jury duty she was upset because she felt like she was letting others down by not being there, she’s a real team player.

Sheila is honest and discrete. She works hard to support our students and families, while keeping people's information as private as possible. She makes sure to fill me in on all of the little details she learns about each student so that I can better support them.

Families and students love Sheila as she is so helpful to all. She takes her time with people in the front office and never makes them feel rushed.  She takes time to explain things and when she doesn’t know the answer to a question she’ll find out and follow through.

Sheila is the manifestation of everything we want our students and employees to be.   Sheila is kind to everyone she comes in contact with, she is empathetic, and she is hard working.    Her humility makes her almost easy to take for granted, however, when you spend any amount of time with her you quickly realize how much you appreciate her. Heart of gold…the kind of person you want around your children and the kind of person you’d be lucky to call a friend.

Sheila always goes above and beyond what was asked of her and what was expected of her without hesitation. She never voices discontentment when a new policy or procedure needs to be learned. She is often assessing and reassessing how she can better serve our school community and is always striving to do better! Those are traits often found in people that genuinely want to help others and have the humility to get better themselves.
