Tuesday, May 27 Update

Hello families,

Hope you had a beautiful long weekend!

Come celebrate all of your hard work this year with Arete's *unofficial* end of the year pool party!  We will grab a few tables together and try to decorate them a bit so people know where to gather.

You can RSVP up until Friday, just send your First & Last Name to [email protected]

There will not be any food for sale at the pool, so if everyone wants to bring some snacks and fruit to share that would be great!  You can bring food and drinks into the pool area, just no glass containers.

Important info:

*Friday, May 30 11am-2pm

**If you RSVP, your name is on the list at the gate, if needed you can tell them you are here to visit me at Lot 70

***Lake of the Pines pool is located here, right next to the Clubhouse.

****There is a lifeguard on duty but parents need to be present to watch their kids.

See you soon!

Hello 8th grade families! The end of the year is quickly approaching. We need your help to end the year in style for our kids. Please sign up to help bring items to the 8th grade breakfast and graduation.

The breakfast will take place on May 29th and is only for 8th grade students. We have some students who are dairy free, gluten free, and vegetarian so we are asking for a variety of items to make this an enjoyable breakfast for everyone. Please deliver it early to campus so we can have time to set up and serve the kids at 9.

On 6/4, we are planning to do a charcuterie style grazing table for families to snack on before the graduation ceremony begins. We will be collecting all items for that the day before graduation on 6/3. If you are unable to donate an item for this and would like to contribute money, please let us know!

Reminder to sign in (and out) every time you are on campus. This is a safety issue. We need to have an accurate accounting of who is on campus. When we do a drill (or if we have a real event), we have to find every person who sings in (but not out) and account for all of the parents who are on campus but did not sign in. Thanks!

*Please email Sheila at [email protected] if you would like to order free/reduced breakfast or lunch this year.

We are a NUT FREE campus. Please save nut snacks for while at home. Also, we have some other class specific allergies, so please email Sarah and the classroom teacher BEFORE bringing in birthday treats.  We are also working towards a healthier campus and encourage snacks/treats that align with that. Low and zero waste items are preferred.

Parent Action Committee Meeting- Wednesday, May 14- 9:15-10:15 Arete Library

This is such a busy time of year that we need to hold the Parent Action Committee Meeting on a Wednesday morning this Spring. We will have coffee/tea and snacks. Please click the link below to see the agenda. We would love to see you here in person! Thanks!

24/25 Parent Action Committee Agenda

Arete Charter Academy Blended Middle School 25/26

If you expressed interest in this awesome program, please complete the form by June 2 so we can order the curriculum. Click the link to see the new components we are offering. Some are included below.

This year we are adding clubs in the morning: leadership, buddies, SEL Groups, and more! On Tuesday afternoons from 1:15-2pm we are adding math, writing, and reading intervention to better support our students.

The program, including curriculum, supplies, staff, and electives is $4500 from student funding. There will be no cost to parents. The fee will be paid with Arete Student Instructional Funds. The fee includes transportation to school from Magnolia, targeted intervention, any sports that we have enough student to field a team, field trips including ones designed just for middle school, all books, and materials and supplies. Also, Arete will provide a bus from Magnolia to Arete in the mornings. Your child can ride a Magnolia bus to Magnolia, or you can drop them off at Magnolia, and then they board Bus 27 to Arete. In addition, we hire local vendors to come on site to teach lessons to only the BMS students and we are increasing the amount of lessons we will host next year. We are currently building a partnership with Magnolia to have Arete BMS students attend wood shop electives at Magnolia in the afternoon next year as one of their elective options. This fee would be waived for BMS students and is an amazing opportunity. We will have afternoon bussing from Arete to Magnolia for the wood shop class. Then parents can pick their children up from Magnolia of they can ride the Magnolia busses home (if they live in PRSD boundaries) or they can ride the bus to the stop closest to their house and parents can pick them up there.

Students will be allocated $500, available at the end of Session 7, provided the student meets the following qualifications:

  • Students must be in good academic standing for Learning Periods 1 - 7. That means a student must have been prepared for all learning period 20-day meetings with the appropriate work samples turned in on time.
  • Student must be at grade level on local and state assessments (prior year for state testing)
  • Students must demonstrate academic rigor/grit during state testing. This will be evaluated and signed off by the testing proctor (in short, the student cannot rush through testing).
  • All expenditures must be with a current Arete vendor or meet reimbursement protocol and spent between the end of session 7 and the end of July.
  • Science Camp for Current 5th Graders
-We will reimburse parents after session 7 in 2026 for $500 for science camp if they meet all above criteria.

Families will be responsible to pick up their kiddos at 2pm at Arete or carpool with other families. Sam Whalen will be teaching English and 6th grade history, Amanda Tamo will be teaching math and 7th grade history and Aaron Codiga will be teaching science and 8th grade history.

All students will attend all electives in a two week wheel.

Sunday, May 4 Update

Hello families,

Hope you all had a restful Spring Break. Remember that anything posted new each Sunday is in bold text.

Our THIRD Annual Arete Student Showcase is May 6 and 7 this year from 9:15-9:45 in the MPR. Please bring items to the MPR between 8:30-9am on Tuesday. This is an awesome event where students can bring in 2D or 3D projects that they have worked on this year and are proud of. We will have a museum walk those two mornings and would love to have parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, neighbors, etc come view the awesome projects and ask the students about them.

Arete’s first Music Showcase is THIS Thursday from 9:30-10am. All students who participate in music classes with Mr. Horton will be performing along with some of our pianists. We are hoping lots of families will come and cheer them on! There will be performances by Ms. McAlister and Mrs. Codiga’s Resource classes, our Blended Middle School Percussion class and Mrs. Veblen’s 4-8th grade class if we can get enough of those kiddos to show up on a Thursday. Email [email protected] with questions!

Hello Arete Families!

Arete's first dance with a "Prom" theme is around the corner! The Blended Middle School Leadership class has been working hard to plan an event all students will enjoy!

This dance will take place May 9th, 5:30-7pm at Arete Charter Academy in the Multipurpose Room. Tickets are being sold at the front office for $10 each of exact cash or check. 5th-8th graders are allowed to attend and they are able to bring a guest from another school. (The principal of the guest student's school must sign that they have good grades and behavior). Every student who would like to attend will need their guardian to complete a permission slip here. All guests are encouraged to wear formal/semi formal attire.

This dance will not only have food and drinks but also a photobooth, games, and a professional DJ! To help bring the students' vision alive, we have a list of items (decorations, food and drink) to be donated prior to the event. We are asking for all decorations to be delivered by May 6th. Please sign up here.

We would love to have a few parent chaperones attend! Along with this, if your student is able to volunteer to help decorate on Thursday May 8th from 1-3 and Friday morning, please reach out to Sam Whalen.

For any questions, please contact Sam Whalen at [email protected].

Arete’s First Music Showcase is next Thursday from 9:30-10am.
