Sunday, February 16 Update
Hello families,
So many new and exciting events are coming. Remember that anything posted new each Sunday is in bold text. Happy sunny Sunday!
You have been invited by Sarah Schwartz to sign up for "3-8th Grade CAASPP & 5th & 7th Grade Physical Fitness Testing 2025." This is DIFFERENT than PRSD Spring Math & Reading testing that happens in March. This sign up is for State testing and is ONLY for 3-8th grade students who are NOT part of the Blended Middle School. PLEASE read ALL of the directions CAREFULLY as there are lots of different details for each grade level. Please email [email protected] with questions. Thank you! 3-8th Grade CAASPP & 5th & 7th Grade Physical Fitness Testing 2025 |
Square 1 is an awesome opportunity to have your child’s own art added to a variety of products. You can preview samples of items you can purchase here. https://www.square1art.com/ Kids on campus created beautiful art with geckos on them. Below are some links to some direct draws below. Anyone who wants to can grab a piece of Square 1 paper at Arete, have your child draw on it (a gecko or anything else you want) and either return it to Arete by 02/19/25 @ 11:45 am, or upload to the above website. Then we will be sent a catalog with your child’s artwork uploaded from which you can place your order. The art is inspired by Haitian gecko art. Artists cut the gecko shapes out of oil drums and paint them in bright colors and patterns. Parents can Google search that, and view many images of the geckos. For February's SEL lesson, students will participate in a short lesson on being a good friend, showing kindness, and supporting others through the Why Try concept of "Climbing Out." They will discuss what it means to help others instead of bringing them down and create a collaborative display to inspire kindness in our school community. |
Math Night at Arete: Where Math Meets Movement! On March 13th, from 5:30-6:30, Arete will host an exciting and interactive Math Night, where families can experience the magic of math in a whole new way—through PE-inspired games and activities! This fun-filled evening will combine physical activity with learning, showing students that math isn’t just about numbers and equations—it’s something that can be enjoyed through movement, teamwork, and play. The night will consist of a series of stations, each designed to help students explore different math concepts while staying active. From obstacle courses to relay races, students can join in a variety of games that incorporate math problems into the activities they are participating in. We would love to have you all join Mrs. Tamo for this fun and active night! This is a free night and ALL are invited! |
Third Trimester Academic Enrichment Class- Grades 1st-6th There are now three different options. State vaccination regulations apply. Funds are removed from curriculum first, and then enrichments. Work samples will be sent home. The first two programs utilize student's funds to add a day of on campus instructional time for families who are desiring more higher level academic instruction from credentialed teachers with more advanced projects and more time with other students. We have a nine student minimum. Classes would be broken up into two multi-age groups of 2nd and 3rd grade (Wednesday Class) and 4th/5th/6th grade (Tuesday Class). Students at the lower grade level (2nd and 4th grades) should be reading at grade level to be able to have success at the multiage learning model. Literacy Launch (1st-3rd grades) has a focus that is perfect for emerging readers. 1. Hello Arete Tuesday 4th-6th Enrichment Families! I am excited that your kiddos will be joining in this opportunity during the third trimester! Students are expected to line up on the wall outside room 2 at 9am. Class time will include continuing with our writing practice and creative-writing studies, where students will begin to develop a collaborative "Choose Your Own Adventure" story; daily chicken checks; whole group activities/games in math; and a short unit in PE games and activities (wear comfortable shoes!). Ms. Doerr 2. The second option is Wednesday's 2nd/3rd grade Academic Enrichment. In science we will continue biology by looking at animal life cycles. In Writer’s Workshop, students will focus on persuasive writing, and poetry. Students will also build on their concept of multiplication; reinforcing multiples of 0-6, and 10, and begin 7, 8, and 9. Students will practice cursive writing, and begin typing. New students are welcome! -Mrs. Baker 3. The third program is Literacy Launch on Wednesdays. During the third trimester of the school year, our astronaut literacy team will continue to explore new places each week (incorporating social studies learning) and also investigate different creatures and aspects of nature each week (incorporating science learning). We will finish up our alphabet exploration, doing fun and engaging read-alouds, book studies, spelling/phonics, and writing connected to our learning. We will also incorporate art and hands-on activities as part of our reading and writing adventures and continue to work on improving penmanship. I look forward to rounding out the school year with an amazing Arete literacy team! This class would be appropriate for 1st-3rd graders who are not yet fluent readers. We Are Arete: A Family Heritage Festival Friday March, 28th 2025 9:00-1:00, Arete Campus All Are Welcome Arete staff is on a mission to bring families together. We have been granted some funds to invest in developing the social and emotional intelligence of our students, and we think the best way to do that is by providing them with an opportunity to experience the joy of the school community. The more we know each other, the more we care about each other. The more we care about each other, the more we are there for one another. Navigating the ebbs and flows of life effectively is the goal of SEL. And doing that with people who know you and care about you, makes the journey much brighter. Please join us on our mission to bring Arete families together! Our Vision: An intro VIDEO from Ms. Tomasetti Participation counts as social studies!! Three Ways to Participate Option #1: Do it ALL! (be a festival goer, set up a booth, and bring a potluck dish) Option #2: Bring a Dish! (be a festival goer, and bring a potluck dish) Option #3: Join in the Fun! (be a festival goer only) Main points to know... Family Posters: All participating families are encouraged to make a poster with pictures and artifacts representing their family, which will be displayed throughout the festival. *poster board provided by Arete. Turn into school office between 3/24-3/27 to be set up prior to event "Choose Your Outlet": After our opening gathering, festival-goers will visit family booths and teacher stations, where they will get to learn about the history of those around them, and the activities and traditions they value. Pin trading and raffle prizes: Families will design their own pins which will be traded during "Choose Your Outlet." All festival-goers will be provided with a lanyard to attach their traded pins to. The more pins collected, the more raffle tickets earned for our prize drawing! *blank pins provided by Arete, and prepared by families prior to event Potluck Lunch: We will close the event by breaking bread together, where we can nurture new connections, spend time with good friends. Family Booths: Families who choose to participate will set up a booth displaying an important aspect of their lives. This could be sharing possessions or traditions that have been passed down through the generations. It could also include honoring an important person, sharing something artistic, teaching about a favorite family activity, or presenting on something that contributes to the family's livelihood. *We want everyone to be able to participate. If support is needed with paying for materials to put together a booth, please let us know! We can help. This is Social Studies: Students' contribution to this event counts as social studies lessons. With full participation, you can make this a month-long unit! Link to helpful resources and more details. Click to sign up. We Are Arete: A Family Heritage Festival |

Hello Arete Families!
Join us now for our Read-A-Thon and mark your calendars for Feb. 3rd!
Get ready to Read Across the USA!
The Arete Read-A-Thon will take place February 3rd-28th and is open to every student and their families. Students will keep track of the minutes they spend each day reading books. You are welcome to use any genre of book that you can find in your home, your county library, or our very own Arete library. Reading to students counts as well!
Turn in your Passport each week as you meet your reading goals to collect cool prizes including a hot cocoa party and pizza lunch served to you by Ms. Sarah & Ms. Kate! All students who earn the parties are invited to Arete to receive their awards!
You must submit your final reading times/passports by Feb 28th and return pledge money by March 14th. If you have not gotten your Passport or Flyer,
please stop by the office to pick one up.
We also have a sponsor sheet to go along with it. 100% of the pledges are used to reward the reader and Arete Charter Academy. 20% of pledges go to the student to be used at the Scholastic Book Fair, and 80% will go to the Arete library, orchard, chickens, and garden.
The book fair dates are March 26th - April 3rd.
We look forward to hearing all about the books they read this month.
Happy reading everyone!
Sunday, February 2 Update
Hello families,
So many new and exciting events are coming. Reminder that anything posted new each Sunday is in bold text. Happy rainy Sunday!
You are all invited to the next Parent Action Committee Meeting on Tuesday, February 4 at 12:15 in the Arete library. Hope you can come. We will be planning many fun events and reviewing our School Safety Plan. |
Reminder that this awesome event is THIS Thursday. I’ll be bringing pizza, salad, and juice! Every year, students in grades 3-8 complete CAASPP testing in the spring. CAASPP testing results are reported to the state and we use the results of these tests to help keep our charter open. We are looking to show growth each year. Many families have questions about how to help their children practice and prepare, and this night is for you! Please join us for a welcome dinner from 5:00 - 5:30 followed by an informative session and training from 5:30 - 6:30. Bring your questions and a charged chromebook if you have one (chromebooks can also be checked out to families during the event). We will go over basic testing information, answer questions, and complete practice test walk-throughs to help your family learn about the CAASPP testing platform and how your children can practice at home. This is a great opportunity for both confident testers and students who struggle with testing anxiety. Also very helpful for students in the Blended Middle School Program! You don't want to miss this important event! We will be handing out raffle prizes to attendees! CAASPP Parent and Student Night 3-8th Grades |
