Sunday, January 8 Update

Good Evening Families!

These groups start this week and we still have openings…

*Communication Strategies Groups

Attention parents! We are so excited to announce that  you can sign up your child  to participate in a small group  meeting for social emotional learning. These groups will run for 5 weeks starting January 11 and 12.

Ages 9-14; Wednesdays  12-12:30pm with Mrs. Dhaliwal in  Rm 2

Ages  12-14; Wednesdays 1:00-1:30pm with Mrs. Dhaliwal in Rm 2

The groups will focus on understanding communication and will give students strategies on how to effectively communicate with others. Students will learn to understand different voice  tones and facial expressions in order to understand what someone is saying. Please email [email protected] to sign up as there are only 8 spots available per age group.

*January 18- Bear River High School visits 6-8th grade classes at 11am All middle school parents and students are welcome to attend.

  • Future Bruin Day - Friday, February 3: From 9:30-12:00: Students will come to campus for a morning of information, tour, lunch and a rally! • Future Bruin Parent Night - Thursday, February 9: From 5:30-7:00: We would like to invite parents to an informational evening to learn about all of the exciting possibilities at Bear River High School. After the presentation, there will be an interactive showcase where families can meet teachers and learn more about classes, programs such as CTE, drama, art, athletics, etc…

Feel free to ignore this if you only have TK/K/1 or a Blended Middle School kiddo. For everyone else, we have a change moving forward with assessments. All TK-3rd grade students completed a Dibels screener in September and will do so again in March. Students who appear to score below grade level, will receive a further diagnostic assessment so we can see what phonics skills they most need support with. Second and third graders will take this last AR test for the year to monitor growth from August.

It's that time to start scheduling the final round of NWEA Math and Accelerated Reader Testing for the 2022-2023 school year. Reminder that all testing will be completed in person this year and is mandatory. (CAASP Testing is on the State schedule for May). Second-Eighth Grade will still need to take the STAR AR test and the NWEA Math test. Second and Third Grade's EA's will also give the Dibels Screener during their 20 Day Meeting or Resource Center time in March).

Testing sessions will be offered on Monday, February 27, Thursday, March 2, Friday, March 3 (This is also the Meeting Mozart Field Trip. Please do not double book), Monday, March 6, Thursday, March 9.

If you have a busy schedule, please sign up early. We only have ONE Friday testing day, so if you need that PLEASE book early. If your child has an Arete Chromebook checked out to them, please charge and have them bring it with them. If they need to check one out from us, please come 10 minutes early to check it out so the kiddos can be logged in and ready when the testing session starts.

ALL 2-8th grade parents should sign their kiddos up for one of the testing slots. Only the Blended Middle School will complete these assessments during their regular resource center time. As always, please email [email protected] with questions! Thanks!

Spring NWEA/AR Testing

Please pay Roller King chaperone and sibling fee now. The deadline to reserve your spot is this Friday, January 13th.

Please pay 2 weeks early in the Arete office with exact cash, check made to PRSD, or at Mealtime ($20 minimum). We pre-pay for all Arete students so if you need to cancel with less than a week's notice, you will need to reimburse Arete for the field trip fee for your child. All field trips will start at the field trip location with check in 15 minutes before the start time. Families are responsible for making transportation arrangements for their children. Families typically join the field trip. Please email at [email protected] if you need to drop off and pick up your child.

The Great Kindness Challenge Runs January 23-27

All kids deserve to learn in a safe, supportive and caring environment. The GKC promotes kindness in all kiddos and is a positive, action-based initiative that creates a school culture of kindness, compassion, unity, and respect.

January and February 2023 Enrichments

There are several classes that may be canceled due to low enrollment. If this is the case, we will give a few days notice. If a class is full and you want to be added to the waiting list, please email Sarah at [email protected]. Thanks!

For off site enrichment classes:

Stephanie and Wendy at Little Hummingbird Crafts announced their Arete OC Adventure Class Line Up. Check them out here, sign up, add to a budget form and use Enrichment Funds! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094fa4a928a6fdc61-artclasses

Remember to email Sarah at [email protected] a few days before a kiddos’ birthday if you want to send in treats so I can check for food allergies. Nuts are never allowed, but some individual classes have food allergies that I also monitor closely. Thanks for keeping our students safe. We also strongly encourage healthier treats if possible as some families closely monitor their kiddos’ sugar and food dye intake.

Please remember that we are a NUT FREE school as we have several students with severe nut allergies. Kiddos may enjoy nut free granola bars and spreads on their sandwiches and all the nut free favorites when away from Arete. Thanks!
