If you like hiking our local trails, you'll want to check out the Summer Star Hike Challenge. Each trail has a unique, handmade star that your student will get to search for when hiking the trail. There are other activities listed on the same website that are provided by Bear Yuba Land Trust.
The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum is open most days, but every second Sunday of each month the museum powers up their steam train and kids get to ride it free of charge. The train runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on those days.
Nevada City's Hot Summer Nights dates are listed on the website for July. There are artist vendors, food trucks, music, and more.
Grass Valley also offers a summer schedule for the Thursday Night Market. These are held downtown on beautiful Mill Street.
If you are trying to escape the heat, consider visiting one of our local libraries. The Madelyn Helling Library is located in Nevada City and the Grass Valley Library is located downtown on Mill St.
Also, the local pools are at minimal charge, providing a great way to beat the summer heat and offer swim lessons as well. The Pioneer Park Pool is located in Nevada City and the Memorial Park Pool is located in Grass Valley.
