Thursday, April 21 Update

We had our first day of testing for CAASP today and the kiddos did amazing!
If you have not signed your kiddo up for testing, or for not enough spots, please do so now. I'm also sending another round of individual emails to those families. ALL students 3-8th grade are REQUIRED to test. We are also doing a fun raffle. Every time a student completes a test, they get to put a raffle ticket into the tub. At the end of the test, we will pull our many, many names to choose a prize. We will have Crumble cookies, Pop It Bracelets and Pop it Fidget Toys, fun journals, notebooks, and pens. We are asking all kiddos to try their best.

One student left a Chromebook and charger in the 4/5 classroom. Please check at home to make sure your kiddo did not take it home. Here are the numbers..

Charger # 16217

Chromebook # 15973

Here are some of the fun drinks that will be offered next Tuesday at our Parent Appreciation Day. Hot drink bar and breakfast treats at 8:50 and yoga at 9:15. Childcare is provided. Please come join us!

Clay Dragons and Castles are here!!

We will send home with 4-8th graders but TK-3 parents need to come pick them up in the front office. There are 30 boxes of amazing artwork, so please pick up ASAP. Thanks!

Parent Appreciation, Talent Show, and Parent Appreciation

We are so excited to celebrate our amazing at home teachers, next Tuesday, April 26. We will start with coffee/decaf/tea and breakfast treats at 8:50 and move to parent yoga with certified teacher Amy Ford from 9:15-9:35. Sarah will borrow some middle school wranglers to help with watching the younger siblings this year. This was a wonderful even last year, so please come join us!

If your kiddo forgot about the Talent Show today- it's not too late...

*Tomorrow is the Talent Show registration at the stage at 12pmStudents must register and show us the piece to participate in the show. Have them bring music, instruments, or anything else they need. There will be three more weeks for practice so it’s OK if it isn’t yet perfected. Please keep pieces, especially lip syncs, to 1 to 1 1/2 minutes long.  Part of the registration process will be assessing that all performances don’t need any adjustments for the show.

*Curriculum share is tomorrow- 9:15am in the Parent Resource Center.

Also- please check in the lost and found. It's growing like a crazy and out of control monster!!!

Sunday, April 17 Update

Good day,

I hope your Spring Break was wonderful! When I look over the rest of the school year, I am shocked at how little of it we have left and we have so many fun things planned! There are FIVE important bullets- including the one at the end that tells about the last day to make curriculum/supply purchases for the 2021-2022 school year. Please read carefully ALL the way through!!

*First up on Monday and Tuesday are the Talent Show registration at the stage at 12pm. Students must register and show us the piece to participate in the show.

*Next up is the curriculum share on Tuesday, April 19- 9:15am in the Parent Resource Center. So far, only two parents have confirmed they will be curriculum to share, which is not that many. Please email me to let me know if you will come share so we know how many tables to set out.

*Finally this week, we have the beginning of CAASP testing. Families, we really need your help on this. We have lots of people who are not signing up and this testing is non-negotiable. You signed a contract in the Master Agreement upon enrollment and we expect you to fulfill the contract.

“Allow students to participate in CAASP State mandated assessments and other school mandated tests, so that we may monitor progress as a school and for each individual student to ensure we are meeting their specific needs. The school is monitored on the participation rate and level of growth of our students participating in CAASP and local assessments.”

Even more importantly, by showing growth on these tests from year to year and by showing Arete students have similar growth to the students in our area, we have our charter renewed. So we need kids to test, and we need them to do their best. (We hear rumors that people sometimes tell their kids because they have to test, the kids can just mark any answers down to get the tests done.) Please don’t do that as it greatly hurts our school and our chance at renewal. Finally, the state has doubled down and is penalizing charter schools who do not have their students test. They actually take points away from the growth other students show. Also, testing is required of ALL students, even those with IEPs and 504s. We can make lots of accommodations to support students (please reach out to me if your child needs this), but ALL 3-8th grade students DO have to take the tests. PLEASE sign up now as testing starts this Thursday. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0a4eaaab29a6fe3-caasp1

*A few of our parents are being so kind as to arrange some fun treats for all staff during Teacher Appreciation Week in the beginning of May. Here is the link if you are able to help out. Thanks for considering! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090a4aadae2ca13-arete

**Friday, April 29, Last Day to Submit Trimester 3 Reimbursements- Last Day to Purchase Curriculum/Supplies for the 2021-2022 School Year (If you do not have your May subscription receipt by then, you may submit the reimbursement in May, but that is the ONLY exception.

*Brush-a-Thon is OVER. Logs are due starting Monday-Thursday. Students who complete them will receive a color changing cup and be entered into a drawing for an electric toothbrush.

*The state of California requires 5th and 7th graders to complete Physical Fitness Testing each year. This year we have scheduled the testing for Monday, May 16.

Nicole Tomasetti is Arete's First Teacher Who Makes a Difference

We were so excited to celebrate Nicole Tomasetti last night at the Nevada County Teacher Who Makes a Difference dinner. Here is why she won...

"Nicole Tomasetti has over 20 years of experience working with students from pre-school through eighth grade. She is incredibly dedicated and passionate about helping kiddos she works with become not just good students, but excellent community members. Long before it became a buzzword, Nicole has been committed to focusing on the emotional growth of her students, with great results. Parents continually reach out to me to describe the incredibly positive impact working with her has had on their children. She believes that students are most successful when they become comfortable and confident in their learning environment, and she provides that for them! She works with students to build strong social skills, believing that will help them lead to success in all other areas. She has the highest academic expectations for students and supports them to achieve all that they are capable of. She perfectly illustrates what Arete means both for herself and her students as they reach excellence and all that they are capable of!"

If you have been fortunate enough to have her touch your or your child's life, send her a quick email here [email protected].
