Sunday, March 30 Update

Reminder that April 1 is the last day to cancel the California Academy of Science field trip for your children and not get charged and the last day to pay for a chaperone ticket. Reminders were sent out March 20 to give families lots of time to pay while on campus for 20 day meetings and other events. If we do not receive payment by April 1, we will need to delete your sign up as this is a very pricey field trip. You can pay in exact cash or check to the Arete office or at mymealtime.com.

Our 5th grade students are invited to LAW DAY 2025 on Thursday, May 1, 2025! Law Day takes place at the Superior Court of Nevada County at 201 Church St, Nevada City, CA 95959. NCSOS, in partnership with the Nevada County Superior Court, is excited to welcome our students to LAW DAY.

This year, they are aligning with the American Bar Association's National Law Day theme of “The Constitution's Promise: Out of Many, One.” Students will explore how law enforcement, judicial officers and the court interact with the Constitution, in addition to learning about the day to day work of the judicial system. The event will feature a courthouse tour, informative sessions with justice partners and law enforcement, and a mock trial. Students will have the opportunity to explore Department 6, the largest courtroom in the courthouse, which has not been accessible in previous years.

We are scheduled for the afternoon session with a tour beginning at 12pm and ending at 1:50. We are asking parents to drive. Blended Middle School students will start their day at Arete and have regular classes until 11. Hybrid students can arrive at Arete at 11 or arrive at the courthouse at 11:45. Parent drivers will meet at Arete at 11am and will load and leave by 11:15am. However they are getting there, everyone should meet Mrs. Whalen in front of the courthouse by 11:45 to be ready to start the tour by 12. After the field trip, all students will either get picked up at the courthouse or go back to Arete to get picked up. Students should eat a LARGE snack before they go as the tour goes through lunchtime.

Please complete the permission slip by April 24, 2025. 5th Grade Law Day

This week each student who created a project in Art Docent in January will get an opportunity to have their child’s art made into products they can purchase. Fliers will come home early this week. (The free stickers with your child’s art on them are free for you to keep.  Each child’s creativity is celebrated and families have a lasting, keepsake memory, while you raise valuable funds! That is a win-win partnership. Square 1 orders due April 10. https://www.square1art.com/

Reminder to sign in (and out) every time you are on campus. This is a safety issue. We need to have an accurate accounting of who is on campus. When we do a drill (or if we have a real event), we have to find every person who sings in (but not out) and account for all of the parents who are on campus but did not sign in. Thanks!

Arete’s Amazing Yearbook will be back thanks to Ms. Tomasetti and our Blended Middle School Leadership Team! Go to www.treering.com/validate, enter school passcode 101636661669265, pay $20.34 and create your two custom pages by April 25. Yearbooks will be delivered for free to Arete before Fun Field Day at the end of May. We do not purchase extra ones, so make sure to plan ahead!

We are hoping that both off and on campus families will send in pictures of the awesome school activities they are doing, whether it is school or individual field trips or any other fun learning opportunities. Please email to [email protected] and put "Yearbook Pictures" in the subject heading. The sooner you can get these in, the better. Thanks!

Reminder that pick up and drop off can only happen in front of the school. Please do not pull up past the garden to staff parking unless you have a handicapped sign on your car.  (That is also where we take our school walks). Also, please drive very slowly through our parking lot. We have CHILDREN and CHICKENS wandering our campus and cars pulling in and out of the pick up line. Thank you for putting everyone’s safety a priority!

One of the lovely things Arete homeschool parents do is limit their children’s screen time. We wholeheartedly agree. One time this becomes a little  tricky is when kiddos need to type. Typing/ keyboarding is a skill they will need in life, school, and on assessments. In comprehensive schools, students usually start typing practice in second grade for 20 minutes about two-three times a week. There are websites that make this fun and easy for kids and families. Please consider checking out one of these programs to support your kiddos in this area.  Please email Carrie at [email protected] if you need assistance.

*Please email Sheila at [email protected] if you would like to order free/reduced breakfast or lunch this year.

We are a NUT FREE campus. Please save nut snacks for while at home. Also, we have some other class specific allergies, so please email Sarah and the classroom teacher BEFORE bringing in birthday treats.  We are also working towards a healthier campus and encourage snacks/treats that align with that. Low and zero waste items are preferred.
