Thank you for choosing Arete Charter Academy as your children's school. We are so happy to have you! Please complete a separate form for EACH child. Please complete this form so we know you received it and have made a decision. Otherwise we do not know if you received it and we want to prepare teachers and staff for the school year. Thanks so much!
We are so excited to have so many offerings this fall! Please look carefully at dates as there are some overlapping options and kiddos will not be able to do everything! Please mark the dates in your calendar when you sign up! All fees will be removed from Instructional Funds by Arete and do not need to be put on a budget form. If a class is full and your child is interested, please email email@example.com to be put on the waiting list. If you change your mind about a class, please cancel at least one week in advance. You will get an email reminder from Sign Up Genius two days before the class starts! An October Sign Up will be coming out soon as well! Thanks!
Please pay close attention to age restrictions. There are a limited number of paid Arete spots. Please let us know ASAP if you need to cancel. Consider signing up for one field trip each month for the first week so more families have a chance to participate. Also, closely pay attention fees owed by parents or non-Arete siblings. Thanks!
Arete is so excited to announce that we will be opening a blended middle school for 6-8th grades for the 2021-2022 School Year. Students will be invited onto campus Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am-2pm and will receive direct instruction from amazing credentialed Arete teachers. There will be a lunch break and electives. This program is perfect for students who need more direct instruction and social interaction with other students. Lessons will be hands-on, interactive, and engaging!
Arete Charter Academy’s Blended Middle School Program is an interactive mix of students learning on campus through teacher facilitated instruction (five hours per day, three days a week) and at home assigned learning for two days a week. On days when students are not working in the Resource Center, they continue to learn at home under the supervision of parents, using curriculum and resources provided or approved by their teachers. This is not merely an online program; it is designed to keep kids active and moving with a combination of online and textbook learning, exciting experiments, hands-on activities, and more!
All students are supported by their assigned Educational Advisor who monitors their individual progress. They may also receive additional instruction from staff who are available to provide academic interventions, as needed. The combination of teacher guidance and student independence with ongoing monitoring and support helps students gain experience and develop skills to empower them and embrace a love of life-long learning.
The program, including curriculum, supplies, staff, and electives is $3250. There will be no cost to parents. The fee will be paid with Arete Student Instructional Funds. Also, Arete will provide a bus from Magnolia to Arete in the mornings. Your child can ride a Magnolia bus to Magnolia, or you can drop them off at Magnolia, and then they board Bus 27 to Arete. Then families will be responsible to pick up their kiddos at 2pm at Arete or carpool with other families.
As this program includes having students on campus for more than the 20% (or six hours a week) that is considered home school, students must have full and current vaccinations or a valid medical waiver.
This summer, the Pleasant Ridge Union School District will offer families free meals beginning on Monday, June 14 through Monday, August 2. Children aged 18 and younger and special education students aged 22 and younger will be given meals on Mondays that will last for the whole week (both breakfast and lunch).
Families may pick up their meals from Cottage Hill Elementary from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM every Monday. Meals will not be provided on Monday, July 5 (holiday), but instead on Tuesday, July 6.
Meals will be limited in quantity and given out on a first-come, first-served basis.
"TechTest Jr. Winners Announcement – 2021 We are excited to announce our 2021 TechTest Jr. math competition winners – held at each school site this year. TechTest Jr is an event for 5th through 8th graders and it focuses on problem-solving skills. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their proficiency at applying math and science knowledge to solve problems. Aside from acknowledging them for their skills, it’s intended to promote the development of more critical thinking activities in the county and to help prepare students for the future."

CAASP testing will begin in May. Please sign up early to get a spot that works with your schedule. The US Department of Education is requiring state testing this year. PRSD will be conducting in person testing only. The tests have been greatly reduced due to the pandemic. These assessments help us monitor what our students have learned throughout the year. They also help us to see if there are areas in our curriculum or program that we need to improve upon. The state of California uses these assessments to make sure our students are working toward grade level standards. All third through eighth grade students are required to take four assessments- two each in Math and Language Arts. Also, fifth and eighth graders need to take a Science assessment. Monday, May 3rd the Arete Resource Center will be open for testing only. Tuesday, May 4, K-2 will attend Resource Center as normal and the other classrooms will be used for testing. Please sign up for the following slots: *3rd grade- 1 slot *4th grade- 1 slot *5th grade- 2 slots *6th grade- 1 slot *7th grade- 1 slot *8th grade- 2 slots Students should plan on staying from 9am-12pm and should bring their charged Chromebooks and any books/supplies needed to complete lessons when they are done testing for the day. PLEASE have kiddos bring in their OWN water bottles and snacks. Due to COVID and food allergies, we will not have any snacks on site to hand out. We have extra chromebooks on site for students who do not have an Arete Chromebook (Those are the only kind that have a password for our internet). Please come at 8:50 to check out a Chromebook if needed.
This year Arete is going to recognize ALL educators who help teach out students! We have days when we will honor at home teachers (parents and grandparents) and days when we will honor at school staff (clerks, custodian, computer tech, secretary, librarian, teachers, etc). Please see the flier for all the details. We also provided a link so families who don't attend the Resource Center can participate. Feel free to download and print the flier, have your students complete it, and take it to their teacher of choice, whether it is at Arete, Liberty Learning, Grace Classical, or a fun enrichment. All families are invited Wednesday 5/5 and Thursday 5/6 for donuts and coffee at 9am and yoga at 9:30. Please put it on your calendar and come get treated!
