Sunday, March 20 Update
Good evening,
*Reminder that this Tuesday/Wednesday is the Pizza Party for students who participated in the Read-a-Thon and read more than 800 minutes. If your child earned the party, Miss Laura sent an email invite. Students who didn't make it this year will have another chance to participate next year!
*Chess Club is this Friday. Please let me know if your kiddo is not attending. Last time only one kiddo showed up.
*Brush-a-Thon continues this week. All Hybrid classes got their toothbrush kits last week in the library. Two classes did not get their Brush-a-Thon logs and will get them this Tuesday. Sorry about that! Logs are due after Spring Break. Students who complete them will receive a color changing cup and be entered into a drawing for an electric toothbrush.
*The state of California requires 5th and 7th graders to complete Physical Fitness Testing each year. This year we have scheduled the testing for Monday, May 16. Students will participate in five activities. We have two sign up times, so please choose the time that works best for your schedule.
The PFT is given to all students enrolled in a California public school in grades five, seven, and grade nine. Students with disabilities should be given as much of the test as each student’s physical condition permits.
If you have questions about the PFT, please contact the Physical Fitness Testing Office by email at [email protected].

Arete is so EXCITED to announce that we will have our first yearbook this year!
Join us for our Youth Scavenger Hunt
Here is a message from a field trip Arete attended in the fall. Looks like a fun event!
Greetings,
The South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) is excited to announce its first ever Know Your Watershed Scavenger Hunt and invites you to participate in the fun!
This Scavenger Hunt is designed for families with children under 12 years of age to test their knowledge of the South Yuba River Watershed. Participants will receive a Scavenger Hunt booklet of questions before embarking on an adventure to visit three different trails within the watershed. All trails are in close proximity to Nevada City and Grass Valley. Along the way, participants will discover clues to answer the questions while learning about the watershed’s ecology and cultural history. Participants will also be in search of a special stamp on the trail to stamp their booklets to show they completed each section of the scavenger hunt.
Dates: The event launches on March 27th, 2022. Participants have until Monday, April 4th to complete the Scavenger Hunt.
Cost: $5.00 per child (All proceeds go to support the Environmentalist of the Year scholarship, which SYRCL awards annually to a local college-bound high school senior pursuing a degree in the environmental field).
Prizes: Turn in your completed booklet to the SYRCL office (313 Railroad Avenue) by Monday, April 4th, between 9:00am and 5:00 pm will receive a Watershed Explorer sticker, a Salmon Saver booklet, and a Wild & Scenic Film Festival coloring page.
Registered participants will receive an email on March 27th with a PDF of the Know Your Scavenger Hunt booklet for print. Copies of the booklet can also be picked up at the SYRCL office.
Visit Know Your Watershed Scavenger Hunt page to register today! You can contact SYRCL's Education Manager, Monique Streit at [email protected] or (530) 265-5961 x218 if you have any questions.
We hope that you will join the fun!
