Tips From Ms. McAlister While You Are Waiting For Curriculum

  • Visit your local library to pick out a book for daily reading. If you have a younger student, this can mean various picture books.
  • Practice writing at your student's level (alphabet, short stories with illustrations, etc.).
  • Search YouTube Kahn Academy videos for science and math material.
  • For social studies, choose a country of your choice to research customs, language, food, geography, and traditions.

Sunday, August 20 Update

Hello all,

It has been wonderful to meet new faces and see all of our friends! We loved seeing many of you at the Ice Cream Social and Family Training. What a great turn out. We are working hard at placing orders and are pretty much caught up. We are waiting for lots of families to complete enrollment folders (including correct proof of residency) so that we can order their curriculum. We are also quickly inventorying new curriculum, adding it to our tracking system and checking it out to your kiddos for the year. You have all been so patient and helpful in following the guidelines that make it much quicker and easier to process your orders.

 

*We continue NWEA Math and STAR Accelerated Reader Testing this week. All 2nd-8th Graders must take these district assessments three times a year. If you have not already, please sign up here. 2nd-8th Grade Fall NWEA Math and AR Reading Assessments 2022-2023

Amanda Tamo here.  We had a shift in our NCAL director for sport scheduling this year, which sort of delayed the start of sports this season.  I am planning on starting practices next week.


Please have them turn in Emergency forms by Tuesday. (posted on the Arete Edlio on Sat. 8/19 or in the front office.)


Cottage Hill/Arete 4th and 5th graders:

Practices @ CH from 2pm-3pm, Starting Wednesday, August 23rd.  Practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays this year. 

 

Magnolia/Arete 6th-8th graders:

Practices @ Magnolia from 3:15pm-4:45pm.( Arete students can arrive at 3:25 to avoid traffic from Magnolia pick-up) Starting Tuesday, August 22nd.  Practices will be held Monday-Thursday this year.

Cross Country is included in the price of the Blended Middle School and is $150 out of funds for other students. All students must be current on vaccines or have a valid waiver. We must have eight students to run a team.

*Fall Enrichments- Sign up here

This will be the first Sign Up for Enrichments for the 2023-2043 School Year. There will be some classes that are single week sign ups and then some classes that are a series of classes with multiple sessions. If you sign up for a series of classes, please Do NOT sign up for additional classes that overlap. If you do so, the sign up for the individual class will be deleted. There can be no overlap of classes as Arete cannot pay for services that your child does not receive.

For ALL classes, please check your calendar to see if your kiddo is REALLY available on the days you select. For classes that are canceled by families with less than one week notice, student funds will be charged and a "to go" kit will be waiting for you in the school office. (Instructors have to buy materials in advance and other kids could attend). If a class is full and you want to be added to the waiting list, please email Sarah at [email protected].  We will try and add more sessions of the same classes if possible.  If classes do not meet the minimum number of students, they will be canceled with a week's notice and funds will be returned to the student's account. Thanks!

If your child is out of funds, Arete will delete them from the class sign up and Sign Up Genius will send you an email notifying you. Then you may refer back to the Sign Up for the email address of the instructor to make private arrangements for signing up for the class and for private payment.

If school is canceled due to weather, Enrichment classes will be rescheduled to the same day of the week if possible, but at the end of the trimester.

California law requires all students who receive classroom instruction through a school to be up to date on vaccinations or have a valid medical waiver registered with the CAIR Me website.

Blended Middle School Students use all of their funds for that program, so please email instructors to sign up and pay privately. Thanks!

Getting Started:
For those of you still waiting for your curriculum orders to arrive, you will need to get started by supplementing your student's education.  You may use student activity workbooks, online resources, etc.  This is a great time to get creative!

Friday, August 11 Update

Happy Friday! We have been working away getting all ready to greet all of you Tuesday morning! A few reminders before we kick off the new school year!
 
*In order for your curriculum order to be purchased, we must have direct links to the curriculum, signed budgets that match the links, a complete enrollment folder with signature and initials on all contracts, correct proof of residency, and complete TK or Kinder packets including a birth certificate or other document showing birthdate.
 
*Thanks to all who are holding off on placing supply and subscription orders now. We are really focus on getting core curriculum ordered. Thanks also for only putting core curriculum in your Amazon wish list.
 
*We are working long days and into the evening ordering as quickly as we can! We are just now start to have a few items delivered. You will receive an email from a prsd.us email the minute your order is in. Until your curriculum arrives, you can do a internet search for the grade level and subject you need and add free at the end and you will get a huge list of worksheets to print. Take this time to have your kiddo do lots of extra reading of books at their level (or read aloud to them). if you are still struggling with ideas of what to so, please reach out to your Educational Advisor for some tips and activities! They are incredible resources.
 

*Monday, August 14 at 5:30 is our Back-to-School Ice Cream Social and Mary was able to get Baskin Robbins to donate so we will have the good stuff!

*For all other families, this year we will have several options for parents to choose from during our Arete Family Orientation for new and returning families on Tuesday, August 15th. We will have an opening session from 9-9:30am called Forms 101. This is great for new and returning families who want to learn all about making the year work smoothly for you with budgeting, ordering, using vendors and subscriptions, reimbursements, etc. This will be run by Mary and Andrea from the office, and Sarah.. Then we will have a short break and then two different sessions run by our amazing teachers. Then we will have a quick parent meet up for new parents to meet and connect with returning parents. Children are invited all morning.

*The Arete Resource Center will begin classes on Monday, August 28 at 9am for 4-8th grades. K-3 students will begin on Tuesday, August 29 at 9am.

Vendor Update

Dear Parents,
This year we are adopting a new system of Purchase Orders for vendors as we feel it will help with less confusion for the vendors regarding how much you have budgeted for their lessons. After you set the budget, Andrea will email the PO to the vendor. When you run out of funds for that service, the vendor will tell you to budget more money and the process starts over again.
 
Note on Bluedoor: Each of the teachers at Bluedoor are Independent Contractors with Arete. Arete will reimburse parents for Registration fees and the teachers will invoice us for the class fees. Classes at Bluedoor start August 14th and will be covered by Student Funding. Some classes will be counted as Enrichment and some will be counted as curriculum. We have worked with Bluedoor to determine if a class qualifies as curriculum or enrichment. Classes supporting the core subject of English Language arts, math, science, and social studies will come out of curriculum and classes such as PE, music, art, etc will come out of enrichment funds. All vendors at Bluedoor are working on their contracts, but not all are complete. We can only pay for classes of vendors who have completed the process. The Arete Office is Open

Starting Monday, July 31st, the Arete office and campus will be open from 8-4:30. Please start returning curriculum and materials that were checked out for the summer. Before we order any new curriculum, all enrollment paperwork must be complete including the required proof of residency, birth certificates for new students and all contracts signed. Also, families must have all items turned in to the office or lost/damaged items paid for before we purchase anything new. Have a lovely weekend!

Welcome to Arete! It's hard to believe that we are just over a month away from the first day of school. The PRSD maintenance crew has been working hard scrubbing, deep cleaning, polishing, and wiping down every surface at Arete and it is GLEAMING. We just need the happy sounds of children coming in to make it complete! The Arete office staff has been making an inventory and organizing curriculum, setting up student binders, folders, and accounts. 
 
If your Educational Advisor has not reached out to you yet to set up your Enrollment Meeting for August 4-9, they will be doing soon any time. If you have completed your enrollment forms and have not heard from them by Monday, June 17, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] to make sure we have your correct email address. You will not receive an email from an EA until your forms are complete.
 

We are gathering lots of information about what you would like your child's school year to look like this year including the Resource Center, the Parent Action Committee, off campus activities, and special events throughout the year.
